Sandra Ann Carson, MD, Editor-in-Chief
Sandra Ann Carson, MD, is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Director, Division of Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence. Dr. Carson is a practicing reproductive endocrinologist and recipient of more than 15 years of research funding from the NIH; her research interests include ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, in vitro fertilization, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. She is the past president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and is Program Chair of the Committee on The Scientific Program of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Carson has been writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health since the publication's launch in 1996 and has been Editor-in-Chief since 1999.
Andrew M. Kaunitz, MD, Deputy Editor
Andrew M. Kaunitz, MD, is Professor and Assistant Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville. In addition to serving as Director of Menopausal and Gynecologic Ultrasound Services at the University of Florida Medicus Diagnostic Center, Dr. Kaunitz maintains a busy gynecology practice. Other activities include teaching residents and medical students. Author of more than 250 articles and coprincipal investigator for the University of Florida site of the Women's Health Initiative, Dr. Kaunitz often lectures and is frequently contacted by the media regarding contraception and menopause. Dr. Kaunitz has been writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health since 1996 and has been Deputy Editor since 2000.
Diane E. Judge, APN/CNP, Patient Information Editor
Diane E. Judge, APN/CNP, is a nurse practitioner at Chicago Health Outreach, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, where her patients include the homeless, refugees, and HIV-infected individuals. During more than 15 years as a clinician, administrator, and researcher at the University of Chicago Hospitals, her clinical and research interests have included contraception, sexually transmitted infections, self-care behaviors, and healthcare for underserved groups such as poor women, prostitutes, and lesbians. Ms. Judge also teaches at Pritzker Medical School and practices in a multidisciplinary vulvar clinic at the University of Chicago Hospitals. She has been writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health since 1996 and has been Patient Information Editor since 2001.
Diane J. Angelini, EdD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, NEA-BC, Associate Editor
Diane J. Angelini, EdD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, NEA-BC, is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Director, Division of Nurse-Midwifery at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence. She has edited two books and published numerous articles. She is Senior Editor of the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing and is Editorial Consultant for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health. Ms. Angelini is certified in Nursing Administration Advanced, was elected a Fellow to both the American College of Nurse Midwives and the American Academy of Nursing, and has 31 years of midwifery experience. She began writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health in 2007.
Wendy S. Biggs, MD, Associate Editor
Wendy S. Biggs, MD, is Associate Director of the Midland Family Medicine Residency Program in Midland, Michigan. She is also Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and has lectured annually about obstetrics and gynecology at the university’s National Family Medicine Board Review since 2003. Her interests include medical education, primary care gynecology, family-centered obstetrics, and mental health issues. Dr. Biggs began writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health in 2006.
Ann J. Davis, MD, Associate Editor
Ann J. Davis, MD, is Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics at Tufts Medical School, New England Medical Center, Boston. She is a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist with primary interests in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, contraception, and preventive reproductive care. Her research has included many studies on contraception and menstrual irregularity. In addition, Dr. Davis is active in many organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Dr. Davis has been writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health since 1999.
Marian C. Limacher, MD, Associate Editor
Marian C. Limacher, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville. Dr. Limacher is a practicing noninvasive cardiologist and echocardiographer, with additional interests in preventive cardiology and heart disease in women. She directs the university's Advanced Postgraduate Program in Clinical Investigation and is principal investigator for the University of Florida's Clinical Center for the Women's Health Initiative. In addition, Dr. Limacher has participated in clinical research in the areas of heart failure, cholesterol-lowering therapy, and exercise in older and sedentary individuals. Dr. Limacher has been writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health since 2001.
Claudio N. Soares, MD, PhD, FRCPC, Associate Editor
Claudio N. Soares, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences and Director of the Women's Health Concerns Clinic at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His clinical and research interests include the management of mood and anxiety disturbances across the female reproductive life cycle. He has written extensively, with more than 80 publications (peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, and book chapters). His published work includes the evaluation of new treatments for premenstrual dysphoric disorder, risk factors for depression and anxiety during transition into menopause, and the role of hormonal and nonhormonal interventions for the treatment of menopause-related symptoms. Other areas of interest include reproductive-related trauma and post-traumatic stress disorders in women and psychiatric morbidity among female immigrants. Dr. Soares began writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health in 2006.
Anna Wald, MD, MPH, Associate Editor
Anna Wald, MD, MPH, Professor in the Department of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Medicine, and Medical Director at the Virology Research Clinic at the University of Washington, Seattle, is an infectious diseases specialist and epidemiologist whose interests center on the natural history of herpes virus infections and their interactions with HIV. The focus of her studies has been the epidemiology and natural history of genital herpes in various populations, with emphasis on the course of viral shedding throughout the disease and its relationship to transmission. She is also an investigator in clinical trials of candidate herpes simplex virus vaccines and antivirals and the role of HSV-2 in HIV acquisition and transmission. Dr. Wald began writing for Journal Watch Women’s Health in 2005.
