Any drug must be avoided during pregnancy. However in pregnancy psychiatric conditions the benefit of antidepressants (especially SSRI) is good for a good pregnancy and post partum period. Unless lithium and other absolute contraindications drug usage for treating underlying clinical conditions in pregnancy is safe and must be used with careful criteria. I observe with high prevalence depressive disorders and anxiety disorders. The benefit in treating these conditions benefits mother and child.
