Reader Remarks on:

Metoclopramide During Early Pregnancy: How Safe?

tardive dyskinesia

Brenda J. Wentland, 10 Aug 2009 5:05 PM EST

Competing interests: None declared

The fetus may be safe but there is the possibility the mother could suffer irreversible neurological changes.

I am witnessing first hand the symptoms my brother is experiencing after being taken off Reglan (metoclopramide). Being on the drug could mask the symptoms that might only show up when withdrawn from the drug. Grimacing, uncontrolled muscle contraction and movement of the throat, neck, jaws, mouth pursing, lip smacking, bulbous tongue and tongue thrusting. Good luck to anyone in this situation. I am looking for medical assistance and everyone is only interested in legal action and not in helping my brother.
